Congresswoman Alma S. Adams today (August 17) announced $100 million in federal funding for the Blue Line Extension Project in Charlotte. The grant was allocated through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and is continued funding for the construction of the 9.4 mile LYNX Blue Line Extension project.
“This $100 million FTA grant for the Charlotte Blue Line Extension project is a major win for the Charlotte community,” said Congresswoman Adams. “Continuing to expand rail service in Charlotte will connect our rapidly expanding communities and businesses. Not only will this expansion boost our local economy, but it will protect our environment by reducing the carbon foot print created with too many cars on the road. As Charlotte continues to grow, it is imperative that we continue to work together to secure necessary federal transportation funding. In Washington, I will continue to fight for funding through the appropriations process and for a long-term highway funding bill that ensures our nation’s critical infrastructure projects get the funding they need to continue.”
Charlotte’s Blue Line Extension project will extend light rail service from Center City Charlotte throughout northeast Charlotte and the University of North Carolina Charlotte to connect more communities and businesses.
