“Accidental Obsessions” opens Friday, August 4 at Ciel Gallery, located at 128 E. Park Ave., Charlotte. Opening reception is from 6-9 PM, free and open to all ages. Show will run through August 26.
Artists have a long history of marrying obsession to creation, often culminating in bodies of work that both delight and slightly mystify.
Through the artist lens, you will see and feel how each artist craves like an addict, longs for it like lovers, obsesses until overtaken with process and just. Cant. Quit.
This art exhibition features the work of Jean Cauthen, Pam Goode, Laura McRae Hitchcock and Marianne Huebner.
Jean Cauthen is compelled to congest canvases with thousands of shapes in unlikely combinations of color, which, ultimately, come together forming trees, playing cards or glowing chandeliers. She works to convey order, with the goal that harmony, meaning and maybe a glimpse of magic might emerge.
Laura McRae-Hitchcock is obsessed with bird nests, an obsession stemming from heartache of children growing up and leaving their home nest. Through her work she finds new light and fills life with purpose.
Pam Goode is obsessed with creating art based on a fluid and ever-changing concept while using fixed, unyielding, hard as rock materials. It is that tension of opposites that maintains the fascination.
Marianne Huebner obsesses over form and their repetition. She repeats her own forms over and over again to convey relationship, meaning, and liveliness.
A few fun interactive events will weave in and out throughout this evening so be prepared to discover your own obsessions!
