The City of Charlotte announced that Terry Bradley will serve as the next director of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations. In this role, Bradley will oversee the department’s administrative functions and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Community Affairs, Fair Housing and Nondiscrimination, and Dispute Settlement programs. He will also continue to provide executive leadership to the Community Relations Committee (CRC).
“Throughout his service, Terry has worked to strengthen trust between residents and local government; resolve disputes; advance fair housing and nondiscrimination protections; improve access for people with disabilities; and create opportunities for meaningful community participation,” City Manager Marcus D. Jones said. “He has also helped the city navigate difficult and sensitive community issues by bringing people together, encouraging honest dialogue and identifying paths forward.”
With more than 32 years at the city, Bradley’s career reflects a steady progression from providing direct services to residents to leading citywide programs, policies and partnerships. He began his city career in 1994 in landlord-tenant mediation as the program manager and went on to serve as Special Assistant to the City Manager, the city’s ADA Title II Coordinator, Deputy Community Relations Director and, most recently, Interim Community Relations Director.
“Growing up in Charlotte taught me the value of neighbors looking out for one another,” Bradley said. “Every role I’ve held with the city has deepened my commitment to service and giving back to the community that shaped me. It is a privilege to lead this department and continue the work that builds trust through everyday actions, strengthens connections that foster a sense of belonging, and removes barriers to create a more accessible Charlotte-Mecklenburg community for everyone.”
Bradley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from North Carolina A&T State University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Livingstone College and a graduate degree in Business and Public Administration from the University of Phoenix. He successfully completed the UNC School of Government Municipal and County Administration program and the American Leadership Forum, a program of the Lee Institute. Terry also currently serves as president of the North Carolina chapter of the National Association of Human Rights Workers.
Bradley becomes only the third person to lead Community Relations in its more than 60-year history.
