Several international and potential Olympic figure skaters are training in Indian Trail for the upcoming Olympic qualifying events. Many are world caliber athletes. The training is open to the public.
Several of the skaters will also be performing in a cancer benefit show on August 18– “Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer,” along with many local skaters. Spectators will have a chance to see the routines they will be skating at 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The teams have come to the Charlotte area to train this summer with World and International Coach, Mathew Gates. Gates relocated to Charlotte in 2016, and coaches at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail. He is also the director of the Elite Skating Academy, which is a skating program for beginner-advanced level skaters who would like to pursue competitive figure skating.
