Mecklenburg County and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority (DBA Carolinas HealthCare System) have settled the dispute that was the subject of a lawsuit filed by Carolinas HealthCare System on July 14, 2011.
In the settlement, Mecklenburg County will transfer to Carolinas HealthCare System the Billingsley Road property currently operated as a behavioral health hospital known as CMC-Randolph, which Carolinas HealthCare System plans to continue to operate. The 66 inpatient beds at CMC-Randolph and the emergency department are licensed to Carolinas Medical Center, which is owned by Carolinas HealthCare System. Carolinas HealthCare System will dismiss the lawsuit and release the County from claims for indigent care funding and CMC-Randolph operating deficit funding for fiscal years 2012 and 2013.
Carolinas HealthCare System will continue to manage the County Public Health Department until June 30, 2013, or such earlier date as the County specifies on 90 days notice, to allow for an orderly transition of public health services.
