WALK THIS WAY: SPEAKER SERIES TEACHES NEW METHODS TO HELP IMPROVE AIR QUALITY

The man USA Today called “America’s Walking Guru” is coming to town to help get people moving to improve air quality.

Mark Fenton is an entertaining, engaging and knowledgeable walking advocate and host of the PBS series “America’s Walking.” Most recently, Fenton has become a recognized authority on public health issues and the need for community, environmental and public-policy initiatives to encourage more walking and bicycling. He has several years of experience empowering people to make healthy lifestyle changes, and helping businesses develop successful wellness programs that encourage employee participation and exceed expectations.

Fenton will speak from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at AXA Equitable, 10840 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. A light lunch will be provided to those who register in advance.

Fenton’s appearance is the first in a series of four nationally recognized Clean Air Works! speaker workshops designed to help local business leaders build robust, successful commuter programs. The workshops are free but space is limited – register before March 19 by calling 704-716-0734 or by visitinghttp://cleanairworks.org.

Launched in spring 2006, Clean Air Works! is a project of the Regional Air Quality Board in collaboration with the Regional Planning Alliance, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Centralina Council of Governments and the Catawba Regional Council of Governments. The project engages employers in the effort to improve air quality by providing them with tools to help employees take control of their commutes, and by assisting in retooling operations and maintenance activities to reduce emissions.
