2nd Annual Realtors Care Day-April 23

Hundreds of area Realtors® are gearing up to help deserving homeowners across Mecklenburg and Iredell counties in the second Annual Realtors® Care Day scheduled for Friday, April 23, 2010, during National Fair Housing Month. The all-day, home-repair initiative is a project of the Housing Opportunity Foundation, the charitable arm of the Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association.

Armed with paint, toolboxes, building supplies and a spirit of volunteerism, more than 650 Realtors® are expected to help 30-plus homeowners across Mecklenburg and Iredell counties with necessary but often unaffordable exterior home repairs and/or adaptive safety modifications for the elderly and disabled.

Last year’s event had a community wide impact of over $200,000 and the Realtors® Care Day committee is poised to build upon this success. Realtor® volunteers are lining up for service and local businesses are signaling renewed sponsorship and in-kind donations. The foundation is seeking additional community support – from financial sponsorships to in-kind construction materials and supplies. Information about specific needs and sponsorships ranging from $250 to $2,000 is available at Realtors®CareDay.com or by contacting Terri Marshall at 704.940.3148 or terri.marshall@carolinahome.com.

The committee welcomes back the commitment of seven nonprofit housing partners that participated in 2009. These regional groups will collaborate with committee leaders to identify eligible homeowners who have critical home repair needs. The partners bring to the project mission-driven expertise related to sustaining affordable housing in their communities. Partners include:

• City of Charlotte’s Neighborhood and Business Services Department
• Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte
• Habitat for Humanity of Iredell County
• Habitat for Humanity of Matthews
• Our Town Habitat for Humanity
• Love, Inc.
• Davidson Housing Coalition – HAMMERS Program
“The assistance from our partners is invaluable because the needs are significant in number and scope,” said Joe Rempson, Realtors® Care Day Committee co-chair. “Our partners are at the forefront of affordable housing issues and in the best position to help us identify and reach out to homeowners with the most urgent needs.”

Realtors® Care Day was initiated by the Housing Opportunity Foundation in 2009 as an extension of its commitment to affordable, fair and safe housing, and to provide an opportunity for Realtors® to give back to the communities in which they live.
