“Our focus is on maintaining city services while also ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff,” Charlotte City Manager Marcus D. Jones said. “Public safety services provided by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte Fire Department will not be affected, however additional protocols are being implemented to ensure that first responders remain safe while working and interacting with the public. It is likely that there will be service impacts across the city in the coming weeks, but our goal is and always will be to continue to provide excellent services to our residents and businesses.”
City departments are considering using staggered staffing models to ensure operations continue, creating social distancing to protect staff and residents, and utilizing remote working options. Beginning tomorrow, we will be cancelling, postponing, modifying or creating virtual options for city events and public meetings. Event organizers will be contacting attendees to inform them of the changes.
The rezoning meeting on Monday, March 16 will proceed but without public hearings. Only decision cases will be heard. Because there is no required public attendance and to accommodate Council members, respecting the social distancing guidelines, the meeting will be held in room 267.
In order to promote social distancing and in the interest of public health, residents are reminded that there are four ways to watch the rezoning meeting live without having to attend in-person:

- City of Charlotte’s official YouTube page
- City of Charlotte’s official Facebook page
Members of the public who wish to attend the rezoning meeting will be accommodated in the Chamber and attendance will be limited to 100 people. The two rooms will be connected using video-conferencing technology so that Council members can see the attendees and vice versa.
The public hearings previously scheduled for Monday, March 16 have been tentatively rescheduled for Monday, March 23. That is subject to change.
All Council committee meetings scheduled for next week are cancelled.

- Currently, there are no anticipated changes to the CATS bus or light rail schedules for this week. Any changes to the schedule will be announced as soon as possible.
- At this time, solid waste services such as trash and recycling pick-up, bulk item pick-up, and yard waste removal will continue as scheduled. Bulk item pick-up and yard waste removal services may be reduced after this week to ensure appropriate staffing for trash pick-up. Any changes to the schedule will be announced as soon as possible.
