Sara Lee North America Retail announces its Hillshire Farm brand will sponsor the Best Soul Food Place during the Eighth Annual Hoodie Awards hosted by nationally syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey in Las Vegas on August 28, 2010.
Charlotte’s own “Sadie’s Soulful Southern Experience” on North Sharon Amity Road is a finalist and will contend for the Hillshire Farm Best Soul Food Place category, along with bragging rights and national recognition. Sadie’s owner Tamara Thompson has been notified and is thrilled about the opportunity to let everyone know about Charlotte’s best soul food.
Additionally, Hillshire Farm is the title sponsor of the annual Freedom Friday Party. Guests will be treated to performances from Doug E. Fresh and Charlie Wilson at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on August 27, 2010 at 6 p.m.
Harvey started the Hoodie Awards in 2001 as a way to honor the nation’s best small businesses, educators and community leaders in a variety of categories for their contributions to the areas they serve. Categories include best high school, car wash, soul food place, nail shop, barbershop, fried chicken, high school teacher, barbecue place, beauty salon, church, church choir and community leader.
Hillshire Farm became a sponsor in 2007. Always committed to community involvement, the brand looked to demonstrate its commitment to bringing great food to the African-American community.
“Hillshire Farm is delighted to be a sponsor of both the Hoodie Awards and the Freedom Friday Party, helping bring glory to the nation’s Best Soul Food Place,” said Tim Roush, vice president lunch and dinner, Sara Lee North American Retail.
