The City of Charlotte has announced that the historic Johnston and Mecklenburg Mills properties are for sale. The City is seeking a purchaser to redevelop the mill buildings on the site and provide a specified level of affordable housing as outlined in the Purchase and Sale Agreement.
The City purchased the properties in January 2006 after a long history of development investments and rehabilitation efforts. A previous agreement to purchase the properties fell through in December 2008, when the contract obligations were not met.
The properties will be sold as one parcel and are located at 3315-3327 North Davidson Street. The sale will be accomplished through an upset bid process, during which qualified bidders will be given opportunities to increase their bid amounts until a final, highest bid is announced. The property will be sold to the highest qualified bidder once City Council has approved the transaction.
To be considered a qualified bidder, all bidders must attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting and building walkthrough on January 12, 2011 at 9:00 AM at the Johnston YMCA located at 3025 North Davidson Street, Charlotte, NC. Sealed bids will be due to the City on January 28, 2011.

Upon request, hard copies of the documents will be made available for pick up at the Neighborhood & Business Services offices at 600 E. Trade Street, Charlotte NC, 28209.
