The Mecklenburg County Health Department’s Fit City Challenge program has launched its second Lose Weight Donate Challenge to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank and its partner agencies.
A partnership with Lowe’s Foods, the Lose Weight Donate Challenge is a 12-week program with Lowe’s donating $1 to Second Harvest for every pound lost by participants. It also recognizes March as National Nutrition Month.
The Lose Weight Donate Challenge is designed to encourage participants to lose weight over the 12-week period by being active and eating more fruits and vegetables. Residents will also learn how to live a healthier lifestyle through tools and resources available via the Fit City Challenge Web site,www.fitcitychallenge.org.
Weekly prize drawings will be held, and several grand prizes will be awarded at the end of the challenge to those individuals who lose the greatest percentage of body weight. The challenge runs through May 26, 2010.
The challenge seeks to raise awareness about Second Harvest Food Bank and their partners who provide food for the hungry in Mecklenburg County. It also provides information on how residents can volunteer their time, money or food to these organizations.
A special thanks to Lowe’s Foods and to Second Harvest Food Bank and the U.S. National Whitewater Center for prize donations.
