LongHorn Steakhouse Donates Surplus Food To Local Nonprofit

Bright and early every Friday morning, Rev. Sterling White arrives with an empty truck bed at the door of the LongHorn Steakhouse in Charlotte. Once he leaves, it’s filled with bins of fresh, unused food straight from the restaurant’s kitchen. The Charlotte restaurant, located at 8115 Old Mallard Creek Road, partners with White’s organization, Urban Street Outreach Ministry, as part of the LongHorn Steakhouse Harvest program. Each week, the restaurant “harvests” surplus food and donates it to the ministry. Items like fresh meat, vegetables, soups and sauces are donated. Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has taken another step toward the commitment to incorporate visually appealing aspects to public transportation by applying an art treatment to the traction power substation behind Atherton Mill Lofts and Publix, adjacent to the LYNX Blue Line and Rail Trail. Critical Red Cross Blood Shortage Continues In Charlotte Area; Target eGiftCard Offered

Thousands of people have responded to the emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross in early July, but there continues to be a critical summer blood shortage. Eligible donors of all types are urgently needed After issuing the emergency call, the Red Cross has experienced a 30 percent increase in blood donation appointments through mid-July. About half of the appointments were scheduled by donors using the free Blood Donor App or at redcrossblood.org.
