Environmental Justice is a movement to ensure all people have equal access to clean air, clean water, fresh food, and healthy housing, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income. Mecklenburg County is committed to embracing environmental justice and it recognizes the historic environmental injustice of our community. The County is working with a consultant to conduct an Environmental Justice Study which will lead to the County’s Environmental Justice Action Plan.
The County needs to hear from you. We need your voice to fully understand the environmental concerns in your community. Tell us your story. This study, while comprehensive in nature, is rooted in community engagement.
“We’ve been working to get feedback from the community through a variety of ways. We’ve visited farmer’s markets, pop-up events and festivals asking folks what environmental injustices are concerning to them,” said Erin Stanforth, Sustainability Manager. “We’ve heard concerns about air pollution, access to grocery stores and water pollution in our creeks and rivers. And now we are including in-person outreach sessions to hear more stories from the community.”
Spread the word. Come out. Share your concerns.
